Role –Application Support Engineer

Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and technically strong Application Support Engineer to support, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance enterprise applications built on PHP, JavaScript, JBoss, PL/SQL, and Windows-based platforms. The role will focus on production stability, issue resolution, environment support, deployment assistance, scripting automation, and database troubleshooting across business-critical systems.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in application support and incident management, with the ability to work across application, middleware, database, and operating system layers. Exposure to future technologies such as Kafka, MariaDB, and Cassandra will be considered a strong advantage as the application landscape evolves.

Key Responsibilities
Application Support & Maintenance
- Provide L2/L3 application support for enterprise applications running in production and non-production environments.
- Monitor application health, investigate system issues, and ensure stable day-to-day operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve incidents related to application functionality, batch processing, middleware, integrations, and database performance.
- Analyze recurring issues and implement sustainable fixes to improve platform stability.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and contribute to problem management activities.
- Support defect fixes, minor application enhancements, and technical improvements as required.
PHP Application Support
- Support and maintain applications developed in PHP, including debugging backend issues and supporting code-level fixes where needed.
- Investigate application logic failures, integration issues, and performance bottlenecks in PHP-based systems.
- Assist development teams with application troubleshooting, deployment validation, and production readiness.
- Make small to medium enhancements in the application where required.
PowerShell Scripting & Automation
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive support tasks, system checks, alert handling, batch execution, and operational reporting.
- Automate routine support functions such as file movement, log collection, service validation, deployment checks, job status monitoring, and environment health checks.
- Improve operational efficiency by reducing manual effort through scripting and tooling enhancements.
JavaScript & Front-End Support
- Support web application functionality built with JavaScript, including troubleshooting user-facing issues and browser-related errors.
- Assist in diagnosing UI problems, validating frontend behaviour, and supporting minor interface changes where required.
- Work closely with development teams to identify and fix frontend-backend interaction issues.
JBoss Middleware Support
- Support applications deployed on JBoss Application Server, including deployment troubleshooting, server log analysis, configuration validation, and runtime issue resolution.
- Monitor JBoss services, thread pools, memory utilization, and application deployment health.
- Investigate application server-level failures and work with infrastructure teams on tuning, restart planning, and incident recovery.
- Support release deployments and post-deployment verification activities.
PL/SQL & Database Support
- Troubleshoot and support database processes using PL/SQL, including stored procedures, functions, packages, triggers, and job failures.
- Perform SQL analysis to identify data discrepancies, backend issues, and performance problems.
- Work with database teams to resolve incidents related to locking, long-running queries, failed jobs, and data processing bottlenecks.
- Support data correction scripts, validation, and production issue recovery where necessary.
Windows Environment Support
- Support applications hosted in Windows-based environments, including services, scheduled tasks, file-based interfaces, batch jobs, and environment-specific dependencies.
- Troubleshoot Windows service failures, job execution issues, access problems, and configuration inconsistencies.
- Coordinate with infrastructure teams for system maintenance, patching, and server health-related activities.
Incident, Change & Release Support
- Participate in incident management, problem management, and change management processes.
- Support application deployments, release execution, rollback validation, and environment checks.
- Collaborate with development, QA, infrastructure, DBA, and business support teams to ensure smooth transitions into production.
- Maintain support documentation, known error databases, technical runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Participate in on-call support or shift-based support where required.
Future Technology Readiness
- Support modernization initiatives involving technologies such as:
- Kafka for event-driven architecture and message processing
- MariaDB as a relational data platform
- Cassandra for distributed and high-volume NoSQL workloads
- Be open to cross-training and supporting evolving enterprise architecture and platform transformation programs.

Required Skills & ExperienceCore Technical Skills
- Strong experience in application support / production support for enterprise applications.
- Good hands-on knowledge of PHP application support and troubleshooting.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and operational support.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript for frontend issue analysis and minor enhancements.
- Experience supporting applications running on JBoss Application Server.
- Strong knowledge of PL/SQL and SQL troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Windows server/application environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot across application, middleware, database, and OS layers.
Support & Operations Skills
- Strong experience in:
- Incident management
- Problem management
- Root cause analysis
- Production monitoring
- Release and deployment support
- Ability to analyze logs, trace errors, and troubleshoot performance issues across multiple layers
- Experience supporting business-critical applications in a controlled production environment.
- Familiarity with support SLAs, ticketing systems, and operational governance.
Database Skills
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts and backend troubleshooting.
- Ability to write and analyze SQL queries for issue diagnosis and data validation.
- Experience in supporting database-driven enterprise applications.
Scripting & Automation
- Proven ability to write automation scripts that improve operational efficiency.
- Understanding of scheduled tasks, job control, file handling, and administrative automation in Windows environments.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills- Exposure to Kafka, MariaDB, or Cassandra.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and logging tools.
- Familiarity with deployment tools, CI/CD processes, and version control systems such as Git.
- Exposure to Linux/Unix environments would be beneficial.
- Knowledge of API troubleshooting and integration support.
- Experience working in Agile, DevOps, or hybrid support-delivery models.
- Familiarity with ITIL practices and structured service management environments.
