About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior PHP & Java Developer to join our engineering team in Helsinki. The role involves working on business‑critical backend systems built using both PHP and Java technologies. You will play a key role in system architecture, development, modernization initiatives, and technical mentoring.
This position suits a senior engineer who is comfortable working across multiple backend technologies in a complex, scalable environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using PHP and Java
• Work with modern PHP frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony
• Develop and maintain Java‑based services using Spring / Spring Boot
• Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend integrations
• Contribute to system architecture, performance optimization, and scalability
• Optimize databases and comDplex queries (MySQL/PostgreSQL)
• Collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams
• Lead code reviews and ensure adherence to best coding practices
• Mentor junior and mid‑level developers
• Support production deployments, troubleshooting, and system monitoring

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 8–10 years of backend development experience
• Strong hands‑on experience with PHP and modern PHP frameworks
• Strong experience in Java, including Spring/Spring Boot
• Solid understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, MVC, and design patterns
• Experience building API‑driven and service‑based architectures
• Strong database skills: MySQL / PostgreSQL
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Good understanding of application security, authentication, and authorization
• Strong problem‑solving and communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with microservices architecture
• Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Experience with unit tests, integration tests, and TDD
• Exposure to frontend technologies (React, Vue.js, Angular)
• Previous experience in a technical lead or senior engineer role
