Your Role
Senior SAP Basis Architect owns the end‑to‑end technical health and lifecycle of SAP landscapes. This role covers architecture, installation, upgrades/migrations, performance tuning, high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR), transport/change management, security hardening, and operational excellence across on‑prem and cloud (including RISE with SAP). The consultant partners with functional, development, security, infrastructure, and vendor teams to ensure secure, stable, performant, and compliant SAP operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and document technical architecture for S/4HANA, ECC, BW/4HANA, PO/PI, Fiori, Solution Manager/Cloud ALM, GRC.

  • Plan and perform greenfield installs, system copies/refreshes, client strategies (SCCL/SCC9), BDLS, and environment provisioning.

  • Execute upgrades, SPS/FP updates, kernel upgrades, SUM/DMO, maintenance planner activities, SPAM/SAINT.

  • Lead ECC → S/4HANA conversions and HANA DB migrations (on‑prem or RISE).

  • Administer SAP HANA (sizing, HANA cockpit/studio, backup/restore, HSR, log management, partitioning).

  • Experience with Oracle/DB2/MS SQL/Sybase ASE (as applicable) and Linux (preferred)/Windows/UNIX administration in SAP context.

  • Operate on Azure/AWS/GCP including IaaS sizing, storage/performance tuning, backups (Backint), snapshots, and cost/performance optimization.

  • Perform end‑to‑end performance analysis: ST02, ST03/STAD, ST05/SQL trace, HANA expensive statements, SM50/SM66, workload analysis.

  • Design and run HA/DR: clustering (Pacemaker/WSFC), HANA System Replication, Enqueue Replication 2, DR drills, RPO/RTO governance.

  • Tune background jobs, buffer parameters, ICM/HTTP, gateway, and optimize transport/import strategies.

  • Implement SSO/SNC/SAML, SAP Cryptographic Library, certificates/STRUST, SAPRouter, Web Dispatcher hardening.

  • Govern user, role & authorization concepts with Security/GRC teams; segregation of duties.

  • Apply Security Notes, Patch Day adherence, vulnerability remediation, SOX/compliance evidence and audit support.

  • Define and operate CTS+/ChaRM (Solution Manager) or SAP Cloud ALM workflows; retrofit strategies for multi‑track.

  • Ensure safe promotion across DEV → QA → PRE‑PROD → PROD with quality gates, emergency fixes, and regression controls.

  • Coordinate releases, freezes, and cutover runbooks with PMO and cross‑stream leads.

  • Install/operate Fiori Front‑End Server, Gateway/OData, Launchpad, cache/config optimization.

  • Manage SAP PI/PO (adapters, queues, channel monitoring) and coordinate CPI operations with integration teams.

  • Configure and tune SAP Web Dispatcher, ICMan, and network/security components (ports, SSL).

  • Collaborate with hyperscaler/SAP teams for RISE environments: provisioning, tenant ops, extensions, SLAs, and CAB processes.

  • Govern connectivity between RISE Private Cloud/Public Cloud and customer on‑prem/hyperscaler components.

  • Produce technical design docs, build books, runbooks, DR procedures, and operational SOPs.

  • Communicate clearly with architects, PMO, security, infra, and vendor partners.


Skills

  • Must have experience as Lead Basis / Technical Architect (Basis) having 3–5+ full lifecycle upgrades/migrations/greenfield implementations (incl. ECC→S/4).

  • Experience in global multi‑system, multi‑region landscapes with complex integrations

  • Expert in SWPM, SUM/DMO, SPAM/SAINT, SAPCAR, Maintenance Planner, SNOTE, Profile parameterization (RZ10/RZ11), client strategy.

  • Strong HANA administration, performance, backup/restore, HSR, table growth management.

  • Familiar with Fiori/UI5 runtime components and OData enablement.

  • Proficiency with Solution Manager 7.2 (EWA, ChaRM, Monitoring) and/or SAP Cloud ALM / Focused Run.

  • Scripting/automation for routine Basis tasks; strong troubleshooting methodology.

  • SSL/TLS, SNC, SSO, SAML, STRUST, certificates, SAPRouter; audit and security note management.

  • Understanding of GRC integration and SoD principles; log/audit trails for SOX.

  • Hyperscale certifications (Azure/AWS/GCP) or RISE with SAP exposure.

  • Technical Architecture Blueprint & Sizing (including HA/DR)

  • Build Books, Runbooks, SOPs, and Operational Playbooks

  • Upgrade/Migration Plans, Cutover Plans, and Post‑Go‑Live Hypercare Guides

  • Performance Tuning Reports & Capacity Plans

  • Security Hardening & Compliance Evidence Packs

  • Monitoring Dashboards, EWA/Focused Run/Cloud ALM Reports

  • Transport & Release Calendars, ChaRM/ALM Config Documentation

  • Good to Have: SAP Certified Technology Associate (S/4HANA/HANA Administration/Basis).
