Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Principal Consultant - Program Management to lead large-scale transformation initiatives for a leading banking client in Melbourne. This role requires deep expertise in program management, cloud transformation, and organisational change management, with the ability to drive complex cross-functional programs from strategy through execution.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong consulting mindset, executive stakeholder management capability, and a proven track record in delivering enterprise-wide transformation programs within highly regulated environments such as banking or financial services.
This role will be responsible for aligning business and technology outcomes, managing program governance, overseeing cloud migration and modernization initiatives, and ensuring successful business adoption through robust change management practices.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Delivery
Lead and manage large, complex transformation programs spanning business, technology, operations, and risk functions.
Define program vision, roadmap, delivery model, milestones, dependencies, and success measures aligned to strategic business outcomes.
Drive end-to-end execution of cloud and transformation initiatives, ensuring delivery within scope, timeline, budget, and quality expectations.
Establish and manage governance forums, steering committees, executive reporting, RAID logs, and decision-making frameworks.
Manage program interdependencies across multiple workstreams, vendors, partners, and internal teams.
Cloud Transformation
Lead cloud transformation initiatives including migration, modernization, application rationalization, operating model change, and adoption planning.
Partner with architecture, infrastructure, security, risk, and engineering teams to ensure cloud programs are delivered in alignment with enterprise standards and regulatory requirements.
Oversee planning and delivery across hybrid cloud / multi-cloud environments, including impacts to infrastructure, application, service management, controls, and support models.
Ensure cloud initiatives are supported by robust risk, compliance, resilience, and operational readiness frameworks.
Organisational Change Management
Develop and drive the organizational change strategy to support successful transformation outcomes.
Lead stakeholder impact assessments, communication plans, change readiness activities, training enablement, and business adoption plans.
Work closely with business leaders to embed new ways of working, operating models, processes, and governance structures.
Identify and address resistance to change through proactive engagement, communication, and leadership alignment.
Ensure the people side of transformation is managed effectively to maximize realization of business value.
Stakeholder & Consulting Leadership
Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across business, technology, operations, risk, compliance, and executive leadership.
Act as a trusted advisor to client leadership, providing strategic guidance, delivery insight, and problem-solving support.
Facilitate workshops, planning sessions, governance meetings, and executive reviews.
Translate complex program issues into clear, concise updates and recommendations for executive audiences.
Influence decision-making across diverse stakeholder groups and drive alignment on priorities and outcomes.
Risk, Governance & Financial Management
Ensure strong program controls, governance, and reporting are in place across all workstreams.
Manage program risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies, with clear mitigation and escalation pathways.
Oversee program budgets, forecasting, financial tracking, and resource planning.
Ensure delivery aligns with banking regulatory expectations, enterprise risk standards, and audit/compliance requirements.
Support benefits tracking and value realization across the life of the program.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
12+ years of experience in program management, transformation delivery, or consulting leadership roles.
Proven experience leading large-scale cloud transformation programs in enterprise environments.
Strong experience in organizational change management, including change strategy, communications, training, business readiness, and adoption.
Demonstrated experience delivering complex programs in the banking or financial services sector.
Strong understanding of enterprise transformation across technology, business process, operations, and governance.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with senior executives and steering committees.
Strong understanding of program governance, financial management, risk management, and dependency management.
Ability to operate effectively across both strategic and delivery-level discussions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to executive audiences.
Preferred
Experience working in Australian banking environments and understanding of regulatory expectations.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Familiarity with delivery methodologies including Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid models.
Experience working across infrastructure, application modernization, service management, and operating model transformation.
Consulting background with experience in client-facing advisory and transformation roles.
Certifications such as PMP, PRINCE2, MSP, Prosci, SAFe, or cloud-related certifications are highly regarded.
