Technology - Infrastructure Architect (Capacity & Performance, Multi-Platform)
Location - Leeds/Warwick UK

Role Overview: The Infrastructure Architect will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and managing enterprise IT infrastructure across Compute (AIX/Linux, Windows/VMware), Storage, and Network domains, with strong focus on capacity planning, performance engineering, and operational resilience.

The role will support large-scale enterprise environments and ensure high availability, scalability, and performance optimization across all infrastructure layers.

Key Responsibilities
1. Infrastructure Architecture & Design

• Define and maintain end-to-end infrastructure architecture across:

1. Compute (IBM AIX, Linux, Windows)
2. Virtualization (VMware – ESXi, vCenter)
3. Storage (SAN/NAS, backup platforms)
4. Network (LAN/WAN, DC networking)

• Provide architectural solutions for scalable, resilient, and secure infrastructure platforms
• Ensure alignment with enterprise standards, CMDB, and configuration management practices.

• Perform capacity forecasting for compute, storage, and network resources
• Analyze trends for CPU, memory, storage, IO, and network utilization
• Recommend and implement capacity optimization strategies
• Collaborate with application, DB, and infra teams for growth planning.

• Lead performance analysis and tuning across AIX/Linux/Windows and VMware environments
• Identify bottlenecks across:

1. CPU, memory, disk IO, network throughput

• Optimize workloads using tools/technologies (e.g., monitoring, alerting platforms as referenced in infra monitoring scope)
• Drive proactive performance improvement initiatives

• Oversee:

1. AIX (POWER, LPAR, PowerVC environments)
2. Windows Server & Active Directory
3. VMware infrastructure lifecycle (ESXi, vCenter, clusters)

• Support activities including:

1. OS monitoring, patching, lifecycle management
2. VM provisioning, decommissioning, and performance tuning.

• Design and manage SAN/NAS storage environments
• Optimize storage performance (IOPS, throughput, latency)
• Lead backup/recovery strategy and disaster recovery alignment
• Work with tools like enterprise backup (e.g., Spectrum Protect, etc. based on environment patterns)

• Define and review:

1. Data center networking, routing/switching
2. Connectivity between compute, storage, and application layers

• Work closely with network architects for performance troubleshooting
• Ensure network supports infrastructure scalability and HA needs

• Implement and enhance monitoring solutions for infra health, alerts & performance
• Drive automation for:

1. Provisioning
2. Capacity reporting
3. Performance tuning

• Improve observability across infra stack

• Lead resolution of complex L2/L3 infrastructure issues
• Drive root cause analysis for recurring performance issues
• Work within ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change)

• Design DR/HA solutions for critical infrastructure
• Ensure infrastructure readiness for failover scenarios
• Periodically validate DR drills

• Strong experience in:

1. Capacity planning & trending
2. Performance analysis & tuning
3. Infrastructure optimization

• ITIL process awareness (Incident, Change, Problem)

• 10–15+ years of experience in infrastructure architecture / engineering
• Proven experience in large enterprise environments (multi-DC, hybrid infra)

• Strong stakeholder management (cross teams: storage, network, apps)
• Excellent problem-solving & analytical skills
• Ability to lead design discussions and technical governance
