Job Description

The DB2 and Oracle Database Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for the end-to-end management of database services supporting Client Continental Europe’s infrastructure. This includes overseeing all aspects of database operations such as provisioning, configuration, patching, backup, disaster recovery, and performance optimization for DB2 and Oracle environments. The SME will lead incident resolution, conduct root cause analysis, and manage escalations for database-related issues, ensuring strict compliance with operational standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the role involves contributing to capacity planning, change management, and audit readiness while maintaining high availability and resilience of critical database systems

Your role

In this role, Technology Lead, the SME will work closely with both central and local teams to provide expert guidance on database architecture, security configurations, and data protection measures. The position requires proactive participation in governance forums, service reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing database performance and reliability. The SME will also support onboarding, training, and documentation efforts to ensure seamless integration of database services into the client’s broader IT ecosystem. Strong communication skills are essential, with fluency in English and a working knowledge of French preferred to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and compliance with local operational standards

Required
The responsibilities will include:
Database Administration for both DB2 and Oracle Databases (DB2 – Primary & Oracle Secondary)

  • Security Patching and Vulnerability Management - Maintain all database servers with up-to-date security patches and version standardized for the banking environment
  • Incident Management – Restore the interruption to database services - Diagnose and resolve database performance issues, connectivity failures, deadlocks, corruption, and resource bottlenecks
  • Change Management - Assist application and infrastructure owners to maintain the compliance of their databases by providing support for manual patching and standby support for automated patching
  • Problem Management – Analyse the incidents and solve problems by providing permanent solution
  • Backup & Restore – Implement backup and recovery using appropriate tools, Perform hot/cold backups, replication setup, log management
  • Disaster Recovery - Conduct disaster recovery testing as per the DR plans to comply with regulatory requirements
  • Capacity & Performance Monitoring and Maintenance - Manage tablespace growth, storage allocation & overall capacity planning, Tune SQL queries, indexes, and database parameters
  • Job Monitoring - Monitor Jobs and system performance

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Strong hands-on experience with IBM DB2 LUW
  • Technical and architectural knowledge of Oracle Database (12c/19c/21c)
  • Strong expertise in Oracle RAC, Data Guard, ASM, and RMAN for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Proficiency in performance tuning, SQL optimization, and PL/SQL programming
  • Hands on Experience on Query tuning & optimization, Disaster recovery planning, Shell Scripting (Unix / Linux)
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with diverse user groups from application developer, application support team, project managers, and other domains expertise, both written and verbal in English

Preferred
  • Certifications on IBM DB2
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) – Database Administration
  • Good understanding of ITIL practices and experience working in regulated environments (banking/finance preferred).
  • Perform incident resolution and root cause analysis for major incidents and outages.
  • Service Now experience and/or any other ticketing management application.
  • Experience with incident+ request management, change management including CAB representation
  • French is a plus.
